The first 3rd Grade Reading Assignment for NYC Public School Kids

This is the first reading assignment for 3rd graders at a NYC Public School on Staten Island.
By the time 8-year-olds get to page 3, there is talk of war, bombs, guns, and death. Page 5 has planes dropping bombs, and by pages 6 and 7, there is a "firestorm of bombs and gunfire." This is not a kids' book.
