Don’t Put Yourself In Other People’s Shoes

The most common piece of empathy advice we get is "Put yourself in their shoes", but it turns out that might not be such a good idea. While putting yourself in their shoes does make you think less selfishly, it doesn't actually make you any better at understanding people. Here's what you should do instead.
