Homeless Soldier / Original Song / Banjo

Homeless Soldier is a song I wrote on the guitar but this time I play it on the banjo. Seth Mountain and Raymond Crooke both recorded this song and I have to say it was a huge honor for them to do that. I thank them and highly recommend checking out their music and YouTube channels.

Homeless Soldier lyrics
Written and performed by
Dan D. Dirges
Two Finger Thumb Lead Banjo
Banjo tuned to standard open D tuning on the long neck mountain banjo

Got shot in Afghanistan, blown up in Baghdad
They sent back home stateside with flashbacks in my head
No hero`s welcome home, no grandstand parade
A stranger in my homeland God bless the USA

I am a homeless soldier in the land of the free
My fighting days are over, there`s no more use for me

Waiting on my V.A. check, three weeks late
But I got booze and vicodin to make it thru the day
I ain`t got no good gal, I ain`t got no home
If I die tomorrow, who would even know

I am a homeless soldier in the land of the free
My fighting days are over, there`s no more use for me

Standing on the corner with a sign that reads
Can you help an old burned out vet, in his time of need
Got half a pack of cigarettes, a cheap bottle of wine
If I can make it thru the day, I`ll be satisfied

I am a homeless soldier in the land of the free
My fighting days are over, there`s no more use for me
