Firefighters fear PFAS in gear could cause cancer
The per- and polyfluorinated substances found in firefighters gear are toxic and cancer causing. This is a problem that has been around for many years among firefighters. Cancer rates for these hero's is higher than the national average. Studies have found that the PFAS used to make the gear has been causing cancer. Some manufacturers are going to discontinue the use of PFAS, but other manufacturers still say the levels of toxins are safe.
