This video features Sukkar, an Asiatic black bear who was rescued from the Magic World zoo near Aleppo, Syria, in 2017. Sukkar was one of just a few animals to survive the war-torn zoo, and he has been recovering at the Al Ma'wa for Nature and Wildlife sanctuary in Jordan ever since.

In this video, we learn more about Sukkar's story and how he is thriving at the sanctuary. We also see him playing with his caregivers and enjoying his new home.

This video is a part of a National Geographic feature on animals that have survived war zones, injuries, and smugglers and are now cared for at the Al Ma'wa sanctuary. To read the full story, visit the link in our bio.
