African Union Transition Mission Begins Gradual Withdrawal from Somalia

The African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia has begun gradually withdrawing from the country in anticipation of Somali forces taking over security duties by the end of 2024. AU forces have been deployed since 2007 to help fight the al-Shabab militant group, but the fight is far from over.
