The term "Shangri-La" originally comes from James Hilton's 1933 novel "Lost Horizon," where it described a hidden utopian paradise in the Himalayas, Bhutan has come to embody many of the qualities associated with this fictional place. Its commitment to preserving its environment, culture, and the happiness of its people has contributed to its reputation as the "Last Shangri-La" on Earth.
