Halloween Horror 2023- Amnesia: Rebirth- With Commentary- Torture Others to Save Yourself?

Amnesia: Rebirth (2020) was developed by Frictional Games and published by Frictional Games
Out of all possible ratings: Terrible, Bad, Average, Good, Great....
My rating, based upon my playthrough experience, is: Average
Amnesia: Rebirth is another intriguing take into the Amnesia series; however, I feel it fails to live up to the gut-wrenching moments of The Dark Decent. One of the biggest missteps this game makes is the inclusion of an alien-like other world that has Demon's Soul's-like enemies wandering about. Some people may have liked this addition, I however, did not. This new world does somewhat tie the events of this game to The Dark Decent, which is discovered in game through journals and other writings strewn about. But, as I stated, Rebirth does not have the same horrid heights of recollecting, or rediscovering who or what you were/are. Had the developers managed to make the rediscovery of Tasi's lost memory as horrific or memorable as Daniel's in The Dark Decent, this game would have scored better.
Aside from that, the graphical presentation is good and HDR is a feature. The game did behave oddly when recording, which I cannot tell if this is some anti-capture feature or if that's how the game runs normally. Frame rates remained stable throughout my playthrough. The other world has a Scorn-like, transhumanist hell aesthetic to it that may make some players uneasy to explore.
The sound is exactly what you would expect from a horror game. There's little music and what ambient sounds there are place a feeling of unease upon you. There are a lot of random noises that would make a nervous person jump and is best played louder than most games as the dynamic range is fairly wide.
The controls are simplistic, which suits this game well. You will solve puzzles and fidget with objects to progress, and most of the puzzles make sense. There was only one puzzle that troubled me near the end of the game and that was due to the pieces I needed for said puzzle lying around looking like useless junk.
Is it woke? Since it's a new game and lots of companies are jumping on the death train of wokeness I can safely say there was nothing about this game I found woke.
Overall, the story was very interesting but lacked the horror and terror needed to topple The Dark Decent, and even arguably A Machine for Pigs, which was made by another developer. Thus far, this was the weakest story, horror-wise, of the Amnesia games. That's not a big negative, however, as the story is still very good.
Amnesia: Rebirth is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Linux, and Luna.
