Old Schoolhouse building - Langleys' 1924 Lochiel Schoolhouse. The Lochiel schoolhouse makes a powerful statement about what school was like in 1920s Langley and clearly shows the rural setting that existed at the time. Moved to its present site in the 1980s, the school regains a sense of its historic context by its proximity to a historic farmstead from the same era. The school is now used to educate present-day visitors about life and school in the 1920s.

Early schools usually had one room, which held a blackboard, desks, a few texts, and a potbelly stove. Pupils in this class ranged from six to sixteen, but sometimes they would be even older, as much school was missed while children helped their parents clear the land and grow produce. Brothers and sisters were taught together. Students had no notebooks - but used slates and slate pencils instead.
