This is the third part of the video series on how to avoid burning out, and today we will focus on how to set boundaries and how to say 'no', which I know is not easy to do.
I want to talk you about how you can set boundaries at work and how you can learn to say no -- but first I want to ask you to think about what is one of the biggest challenges you're facing right now?
The answer for so many people is being overcommitted, saying 'yes' to so many things and feeling overwhelmed, but unsure of what they can do to change. This is why it's so important to learn how to set better boundaries so you can protect your energy and avoid burning out.
In this video, I share a few practical strategies to help you set better boundaries:
1. Recognize You Don't Have Unlimited Energy
-You don't have unlimited emotional, mental, and physical energy and you need to remember that, everything you do throughout your day uses that same energy. So you need to learn to become aware of, manage and protect your energy.
2. Everything You Say Yes to is a Choice to Say No to Something Else
- When you say yes to everything, you need to recognize that you are also saying no to something else - like having focused thinking time at work or more quality time with your family. So becoming aware of when you are making these tradeoffs is important and making sure that you're prioritizing what is most meaningful to you.
3. Connect to Your Bigger Why (Your Purpose)
- Take some time to reflect on what is most important to you -- at work and outside of work -- and use that purpose to make it easier for you to say 'no' and set boundaries. It's easy to feel guilty about setting boundaries and like we are going to disappoint people, but when we focus on how saying 'no' helps us serve our purpose, setting boundaries becomes a bit easier to do.
