Two drivers report bullets hit their vehicles on Interstate 74 in Green Township
Two people claim bullets struck their vehicles on Interstate 74 over the past three weeks. The most recent incident happened Sunday morning. A man told a 911 operator he was headed eastbound near North Bend Road when something broke the windshield of his rented U-Haul. "When it hit my truck, it was like a bomb hit it," he said. He didn't believe it was loose gravel and told the operator it looked like a bullet struck. The object didn't go all the way through the glass. Green Township police and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office haven't been able to verify it was a gunshot. The man told the 911 operator he looked around for a shooter. "There was no vehicle in front of me, there was no vehicle beside me," he said. "There was only one vehicle coming westbound, like a gold, champagne, light gray Grand Am -- something in that sort. That is the only vehicle, and that was on the other side of the highway." Another person reported he, too, was headed eastbound near North Bend Road when he heard what sounded like a rock hitting his vehicle. Instead, police say it appears to have been a bullet. He told police it happened at about 11 a.m. July 22, but he didn't report it until Monday morning. Neither driver was injured. Lt. Mitch Hill, with the Green Township Police Department, said it's too early to tell if anyone intentionally fired at the vehicles. Both incidents are under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
