The world record for the highest parachute jump from the edge of space with a supersonic free fall is held by Felix Baumgartner. On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner, an Austrian skydiver, jumped from a helium balloon in the stratosphere, approximately 24 miles (39 kilometers) above the Earth's surface. During his jump, he reached a maximum speed of 843.6 miles per hour (1,357.6 kilometers per hour), breaking the sound barrier without the aid of a vehicle. This incredible feat was part of the Red Bull Stratos mission and provided valuable data for scientific research on high-altitude jumps and human physiology.
