The Crotalus one of the rarest Liturgical Devices.
The Crotalus was/is used on Maundy Thursday to the beginning of the 'Gloria in excelsis' on Holy Saturday.
Not used so often in todays Church but you may see it in Churches that follow the Latin Rite or Latin Mass during this period
