Triceratops in Kong: Skull Island Explained

In King Kong (2017), during the skullcrawler cemetery chase scene, we see a machinegunner posted on top of an enlarged triceratops skull but we don't get an explanation as to why this skull is there nor do we see a live triceratops anywhere in the film.
