Othello Tunnels, Hiking Through Abandoned Train Tunnels. The Othello Tunnels is on the outskirts of Hope, B.C., and is part of the old historic Kettle Valley Railway. The Othello Tunnels were originally built in 1914. The railway was decommissioned in 1959-1961. There is a bit of controversy on when it really shut down.

There are 5 Tunnels that are carved through steep canyon walls. Two trestles connected the tunnels over the Coquihalla River, which snakes its way thunderously through the canyon down below. Today what remains of 1 Tressel is used is a footbridge. The other is now just a bridge for tourists. The incredible geology of the canyon, with the Coquihalla river running through it as well as the inventive engineering of the tunnels, makes this a popular place to explore.
