One year after her death, Mahsa Amini's mother pays tribute to her daughter

Mojgan Eftekhari, the mother of Mahsa Amini, has given her first interview since her daughter passed away a year ago.

After being jailed in Tehran by Iran's morality police, Mahsa passed away in September 2022. Unprecedented protests spread across the nation as a result.

She had been charged with improper hijab [veil] adornment.

Witnesses said the 22-year-old was abused while in detention, but authorities denied abuse and said "sudden heart failure" was to blame for the woman's passing.
