The strangest deer bed I've seen. Do deer 'clean' their beds? #deer #whitetaildeer #deerhabitat

I witnessed the strangest thing today on our Project 291 Southern Illinois hunting land. I have been working on cutting a new access road through the woods for the last week and on day 2 while I was walking back to my truck I saw a doe bedded right in the middle of my 'rough cut' dirt road. She was in the shade, and more specifically bedded in a fully shaded spot in the new dirt road. As I approached her of course she took off, but as I inspected the spot that she was bedded down in I was pretty surprised. Most of the deer beds that I have come across in the woods appeared to be just 'flattened' if you will. Just like the deer plop down for a daily nap, or in a specific spot to get out of the wind. But as I walked up on this deer bedded in the dirt I noticed that the deer bed was carefully crafted and cleaned of debris! Check it out and let me know what you think, but the deer bed was very carefully crafted and shaped to the outline of the doe as she was bedded down. The debris hill ran along her back as she was bedded in the dirt. Anyway, I thought it was interesting as I had never really seen this before so I thought I would share it with you. Happy friday and I hope you all have a great weekend! And best of luck to all of you deer land managers and food plotters with all of your fall food plots! #deer #deerhabitat #deer2023 #kapperoutdoors #kapperoutdoors2 #kapperoutdoorsproject291 #southernillinoisland #southernillinois #deerwildlife
