In the early hours of July 26, 2023, at approximately 2:12 a.m., the Huron Police Department (HPD) was alerted to an alarm at the Vacationland Federal Credit Union branch located on University Drive East in Huron, Ohio. While investigating the premises, officers detected sounds emanating from the roof area above the drive-thru. Upon closer inspection, they discovered a blue recycling bin strategically positioned beneath an access door in the drive-thru lane. Moments later, a duffle bag descended from the ceiling and landed on the ground, followed by the suspect dropping into the recycling bin. With precision, the officers apprehended the suspect from the bin, promptly placing him under arrest. The individual was identified as 27-year-old Tristan Heidl, a resident of Huron, Ohio. A subsequent search revealed that the backpack contained various construction tools. Heidl now faces charges of breaking and entering, possession of criminal tools, and safecracking. He is currently in custody at the Erie County jail, held on a $50,000 bond.
