Mesmerizing footage of the northern lights literally flooded the social networks of the whole world. And because of this - enthusiastic comments and genuine delight. Incredible flashes of different shades - white, green, crimson, purple - were clearly visible not only outside the city, but also within the city.
Aurora borealis spread across Russia and Europe, they were observed even in the south, up to France. “My pulse is still racing! Bright green spots danced in the sky up to the zenith. This spectacle is unforgettable,” says Heiko Ulbricht, who watched the aurora from Saxony, Germany. The auroras in Europe were so bright that they could be seen even from well-lit urban areas.
Bright red auroras have also been observed in China. The geomagnetic storm is still ongoing and is producing visible auroras across North America. Mid-latitude observations include all of Canada, as well as North Carolina, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, California, and Oklahoma.
This became possible due to a powerful magnetic storm that hit the Earth the day before. Scientists rated it four points out of a possible five! The so-called "solar wind" reached the Earth - this caused a multi-colored glow.
And this leads to a change in the magnetic field of our planet. But besides the incredible spectacle - the northern lights - caused by a magnetic storm, there are other, less pleasant consequences. For example, interference in communication and navigation systems.
In addition, any perturbation of the Earth's magnetic field can affect well-being. Meteorologically dependent people may feel malaise, loss of strength. According to scientists, the indicator of the perturbation of the magnetic field of the planet Earth today has already reached an average mark and is approximately three out of a possible five.
The geomagnetic storm will continue for another 2 days, so those who missed this phenomenon still have a chance to see everything with their own eyes
