Bodycam video shows arrest of man in powered-wheel Jeep for driving under the influence

An Indiana man was arrested for drunk driving last month after being pulled over in a Power Wheels Jeep – and now footage of his arrest has been released.

The incident occurred on August 23 in Vincennes, Indiana, where an Indiana State Police trooper patrolling the area spotted 51-year-old John McKee behind the wheel of the children’s vehicle. Apparently, McKee was pulled over for not having lights or reflectors.

During the stop, ISP said he “showed signs of impairment” and failed field sobriety tests before testing positive for marijuana and meth at a nearby hospital, authorities said. He was later charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Per Wave 3he was held at the Knox County Jail but has since been released.

Video of the arrest released by ISP to TooFab shows the moment a police officer pulled up next to McKee in the blue ride-on vehicle.

After asking for the man’s driver’s license – which he didn’t have on him – the officer said to McKee: “You know you can’t just drive those things down the road, right?” He then reminded McKee that the Power Wheels had no lights and were “not intended for the street”.

McKee appears to claim he returned home from pumping gas before realizing he had allegedly left the gas can behind and asked if he could go back and get it. Of course, the police officer didn’t let him go and instead conducted a field sobriety test.

In the video, he is seen stumbling during a test and telling the police officer: “I failed that.”

Later, in the hospital, when McKee learns that he would be charged with drunk driving, he shouts, “Are you kidding me?!” Oh, man.”

When he was taken in for evaluation after hospitalization, he was also seen asking the police officer in the patrol car, “What are you giving me a DUI for?” How to get a DUI on a Power Wheels? I am just asking.”

“This is still a powered vehicle. “It’s still considered a vehicle,” authorities told him before McKee asked for leniency.

“Why can’t you let this go, man, come on, dude. Give me a little help, man. You don’t actually have to put me in jail for this, you just want to because you can’t. “Don’t take me for anything else,” McKee said. “I’ve been riding these Power Wheels for 9 months, and you’re the only one who’s putting me in jail. More power to you, you’re the only one who did this. I’m not mad, it’s you.” I’m just doing your job, I’m upset, but I’m not mad.

The officer, meanwhile, said his hands were tied – and said if McKee hadn’t been “under the influence of things” he probably would have let him off with a warning.
