How Fastag Works?

FASTag is an electronic toll collection system used on Indian highways to make toll payments more efficient. Here's how it works:

1. RFID Technology: FASTag uses Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Each FASTag sticker contains a unique identification number linked to your vehicle and account.

2. Account Creation: To get a FASTag, you need to create an account with a bank or a FASTag issuer agency (like NHAI or private banks). You provide your vehicle and KYC details and load money into the FASTag account.

3. Sticker Placement: The FASTag sticker is affixed to the vehicle's windshield. It's important to ensure proper placement for the RFID scanner to read it effectively.

4. Toll Plaza Approach: When you approach a toll plaza, there are dedicated FASTag lanes equipped with RFID readers and cameras.

5. RFID Reading: As your vehicle approaches the toll booth, the RFID reader scans the FASTag sticker on your windshield, retrieving your account information.

6. Payment Deduction: The toll amount is deducted automatically from your FASTag account balance, and the toll gate barrier opens. You receive an SMS and/or email notification for the transaction.

7. Recharge: When your FASTag balance runs low, you can recharge it online or at authorized outlets to continue using it for toll payments.

8. Account Management: You can manage your FASTag account online, check transaction history, and update vehicle or personal information as needed.

FASTag simplifies the toll payment process, reduces congestion at toll booths, and promotes cashless transactions on Indian highways. It also helps in tracking toll payments and improving overall road transport efficiency.
