Is Vivek Ramaswamy a Game Changer in Foreign Policy?

Vivek Ramaswamy is running for President of the United States in 2024 in the Republican primary. His position on foreign policy and foreign affairs lies in drawing Russia closer to the United States and to place Russia as a strategic check on China. Ramaswamy recently wrote that, “The longer the war in Ukraine goes on, it becomes ever clearer that there is only one winner: China. To do this, Ramaswamy would offer the prospect of sanctions relief to Vladimir Putin and letting Russia keep its gained territory in exchange for a peace deal. This is a move right out of Richard Nixon’s playbook who used his famed Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to open diplomatic relations with Mao Zedong’s China to further weaken the Soviet Union. Even though Putin is a pariah to many in the West, Mao had the same reputation in Nixon’s day, yet Nixon was still able to successfully use Mao. All of this begs the question: Will Ramaswamy make for an effective manager of the state department?
