It's not backward or isolationist to be neutral. Neutrality means defending your own position, your own interest, and helping to resolve conflicts peacefully. The current attack on Irish neutrality, together with the attacks on Austrian and Swiss neutrality are just the latest version of the neocon onslaught against independent nations who do not want to succumb to the logic of war and destruction. Neutrality and nonalignment are signs of strength and the neocons hate that, that's why they go on the attack.
