Republican-controlled Wisconsin Senate votes to fire top elections official

The Wisconsin Senate, under GOP control, voted on Thursday to dismiss the state’s chief elections officer, setting the stage for a probable legal showdown in the state in the run-up to the 2024 election.

Democrats contend that the Senate’s decision to remove Meagan Wolfe, the nonpartisan Administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, was not conducted in accordance with proper procedures, and they argue that they lack the authority to remove her from her post.

Republican leaders have been issuing threats for several months regarding Wolfe’s removal, citing concerns over her management of the 2020 election, The Hill reported.
