The last Rugby World Cup of the 20th century would also be the first of the professional era, and amid change in World Rugby this tournament would now see 20 teams instead of 16 battle it out for glory with five pools and an extra knockout round.

Hosted by Wales (with help from England, Ireland, Scotland and France) the fourth tournament would once again live up to expectation with a few twists and turns and shock results along the way.

A tough but memorable tournament as the Southern Hemisphere looked to make it four straight wins - could the North strike back and how would resurgent tournament hosts Wales fare with Graham Henry at the helm and now unafraid to take on and beat the best in the world?
