Philip Dru has vital political significance.
when placed side by side with political events that transpired during the years that followed, some sections of the "colonel's book leap into life and take on great significance.
The main characters portrayed in the novel are resembled to be: House himself, (Senator Selwyn) Woodrow Wilson, (Governor Rockland) and
Jacob Shiff (Mr. Thor) Selwyn and Thor got together to put their creature in the White House.
Not only did Senator Selwyn plan to win the presidency, but he also planned to bring under his control both the Senate and the Supreme Court (page 70)
