My understanding of scripture is that Rev 4:1 represents a "pre-Tribulation" Rapture of the Church. In this sense, John represents the "Church" that is TAKEN to the Throne room of God prior to the Tribulation period of God, which begins with the opening of the Seal judgments. John was not physically taken to Heaven in a Rapture/Resurrection ... He died a natural death and will be Raptured/Resurrected when the dead in Christ rise first, then those alive, at the Trump of God in a pre-Tribulation Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
