Abandoned Mansion On a Lake Worth Five Million Dollars.

This incredible abandoned mansion, built in 1968 was purchased in 2020 for almost $5,000,000.

The lakefront mansion contains an elaborate totem pole on the back of the property, it is a Haida totem pole carved for Canada’s 1967 centennial

To mark the 100th anniversary of its confederation, Canada was holding a variety of celebrations, activities, and events across the country at this time.

As part of these celebrations, a totem pole was erected on the property, the totem pole stands at 32’ tall and 18 inches in diameter.

The totem pole has six sections:
Section 1: A Rabbit and the Canada centennial logo
Sections 2 - 4: Interpreted as stylized people/humans
Section 4: Includes a person possibly with a pipe in their mouth
Section 5: An owl or bird of Prey
Section 6: A Bear

It is said that a totem pole has a “life” and they are not to be painted or repaired and they stand until they fall, which is why the totem pole here is in an advanced state of deterioration.

A heritage statement concluded that the existing supports on the totem pole be removed and that it be laid on the ground and permitted to decompose and return to the earth on the site that it was erected,. The pole should not be removed from the site, but rather lay in-situ until nothing remains.

There is no documentation on the origin of the pole. There is no specific information on the carver or artist who created the pole. There is major deterioration due to the proximity to the lake. Based on the presumed date of installation of 1967, the pole has arguably lived its lifetime.

The house changed hands several times before finally being purchased for 4.9 million dollars in 2020.

This house will be demolished to make way for yet another contemporary mansion in the neighborhood, which is undergoing a significant amount of redevelopment.
