Nicely priced before discounts at just £21.99 this new architect’s style lamp from zhiwangguan ticks almost all the boxes for me. It is large, bright, manoeuvrable, adjustable and perfect for use above a large work desk and unlike the others I have tried, this one has a remote control.

In the rather unassuming plain box are the lamp itself, together with a robust metal mounting clamp, a small remote control and a short and sweet user guide. Build quality seems lightweight but robust with the frame and spring mechanism all made from aluminium alloy and clearly built to last.

The lamp folds almost flat for storage and in use the upright arm can be adjusted to almost any position with the three cantilevered axis points. The 850 lux, 80 LED, 33cm lamp head has ten stage dimming and a choice of three colour temperature settings (warm white, daylight white, cool white) selectable through the backlit in-line control box at the lamp end of the USB power cable or with the remote control. The lamp has three axis points and this coupled with the 360-degree rotation of the head allows it to be positioned in almost any configuration and once in place the powerful spring mechanism makes sure that it stays in place without sagging or drooping. Note that although the head rotates fully it cannot be adjusted in the horizontal plane, the lamp can only be rotated at the base.

The Lamp comes with a suprisingly lightweight metal base unit that clamps to the desktop and into which the lamp arm fits and rotates. Take note that the clamp has a maximum grip of 8 cm and will only attach to a surface with a suitable overhanging lip, also the base of the clamp is not padded, so on a delicate surface use a piece of cloth.

This lamp is a well made and classy piece of kit, for me let down only by the same generic in-line control box used on many LED lighting units, and with rather the downmarket presentation. The light unit itself is first rate. Had it been presented in a more upmarket box and with a non-standard control panel, I would have happily paid more for it. The lamp is large and perhaps better suited for a work desk rather than the bedroom but wherever it is used it is unlikely to disappoint.

The custom remote control is small but larger than the generic credit card ones too often used. It has proper clicky buttons for power on/off, brightness up/down and light mode.

This is a well made and attractive lamp with looks and build quality suited for professional use with a low price that most certainly does not reflect the quality of the product.
