Trigger Happy

When we are triggered, we are almost instantly thrown into an intense emotion. These triggers are often linked to things from our past that are traumatizing to us. The trigger puts us right back in that situation and we tend to lose control over ourselves.

I personally don't believe this is a bad thing. Our triggers are signs that tell us something about ourselves. They are there to remind us of what still needs to be worked on.

The gap between the trigger and the emotion is extremely small, but if we start to bring awareness to the effect they have on us, we can start to bring pause between the trigger and the emotion. This little gap between the trigger and the emotion will begin to grow, and in that space we will be able to decide how we choose to act. This is where we begin to have self-mastery over ourselves. This is where we begin to have a little freedom over those things that have had control over us.

Stick with me while I discuss this and other interesting topics.
