United Auto Workers union is poised to strike major US car makers this week

Approximately 146,000 U.S. auto workers are on the verge of commencing a strike this week should General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis fail to meet their demands, which include substantial pay raises and the reinstatement of concessions made by workers years ago when these companies faced financial difficulties.

Shawn Fain, the assertive president of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, has issued a stern warning that any of the three companies failing to reach an agreement by the contract’s expiration at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday could face a strike.

Negotiations involving wage and benefit proposals began last week, with some incremental progress seemingly made, the Associated Press reported.
