11 people are hurt when a walkway collapses during Maine’s annual lighthouse event

During an annual event promoting tours of Maine’s cherished lighthouses, a distressing incident unfolded as a wooden walkway gave way, resulting in the injury of eleven lighthouse enthusiasts who plummeted into the muddy flats below.

The unfortunate incident occurred at the Doubling Point Lighthouse in Arrowsic on a Saturday afternoon.

The lighthouse was welcoming the public as part of Maine Open Lighthouse Day, an occasion during which the state’s picturesque lighthouses are accessible to visitors, the Associated Press reported.
