Ethel Barrymore (1879-1959) was rumored to be engaged to multiple British men during her time in British theatre (1898 - approx. 1905). Ethel Blythe Barrymore was a member of the Barrymore/Drew acting family and a great aunt to current celebrity Drew Barrymore. One of her lovers and fiancés was Gerald du Maurier (1873-1934) who called her "Daphne". Why did he call her Daphne? He seems to have thought it was her middle name. He was so inspired by her, he gave the name to his middle daughter who would become the author Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989).
