Countdown: As the launch time approaches, a countdown begins. This is a highly structured sequence of events leading up to liftoff. It includes final system checks, fueling of the rocket, and communications checks between mission control and the rocket.
Ignition: The moment of ignition is a dramatic one. Enormous engines roar to life, spewing flames and smoke as they generate an incredible amount of thrust. The rocket remains stationary on the launch pad as the engines build up power.
