We are Easter people living in a Good Friday world.
“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” (Psalm 39:4-5 NLT)
But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison. (Acts 8:3 NLT)
Paul stopped building his kingdom, so that he could build His Kingdom.
“But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”
(Philippians 3:7-8)
Paul understood that Christ > this world.
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature, should take such a view of things. (Philippians 3:13-15)
Paul was focused on his future and not distracted by his past.
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)
“If you read history, you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next.”—C.S. Lewis
All of us, then, who are mature, should take such a view of things. (Philippians 3:15)
Living for eternity is a mark of maturity.
“If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy, we should begin to wonder if perhaps we were created for another world.”—C.S. Lewis
Paul said, “My life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about God’s wonderful kindness and love. (Acts 20:24)
