On September 11, 1989, WISH in Indy expanded its newscast from an hour to 90 minutes. Mike Ahern and Debby Knox anchored the 5-5:30 and 6-6:30 segments while Patty Spitler, the station's noon anchor, was joined by Ken Owen, who had been the primary evening co-anchor at WLOS in Asheville/Greenville/Spartanburg, NC/SC, from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Fred Kalil was the sports anchor and Stan Wood delivered the weather. This is the inaugural show in its entirety, minus commercials. Stories included an Indianapolis visit by Jack Kemp, the Indians winning the AAA championship, and the Colts trying to bounce back from a season opening loss to the 49ers. Ray Rice brings us his 'Indiana's Own' segment from the governor's residence, where he is joined by First Lady Susan Bayh.
