Describing Prigozhin's death as "simply one less terrorist" for Ukraine, Zelenskyy also emphasized that the Russians' hiding behind the Wagnerites had damaged Russian morale. Zelenskyy continued his speech by saying, "I think that this protection, protected by the lives of mercenaries, Wagnerites, has been lost. This is definitely an advantage for us."
Moreover, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War believe that Vladimir Putin took revenge for the humiliation caused by the rebellion and ordered the destruction of the Wagner Group's leadership.
Yevgeny Prigozhin was the leader of the Wagner Group and a close advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, his relationship with Putin soured when he started a rebellion in June 2023. On August 23, Prigojzhin was killed along with 9 other people on board a plane that crashed on its way from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
