Mithraism, or the Cult of Mithras, was an ancient mystery religion that flourished in the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 4th centuries CE. It emphasized moral values, discipline, and a sense of community among its members. Mithraic temples, known as Mithraea, often located underground, served as places of worship and initiation.

Despite its popularity during its peak, Mithraism gradually declined, particularly with the rise of Christianity, which became the dominant religion in the Roman Empire. While the exact details of Mithraic beliefs and rituals remain shrouded in mystery, its legacy continues to intrigue scholars and enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into the diverse religious landscape of the ancient world.
