Pierce County Takes Legal Action Against Homeowners Over Unaddressed Homeless Camp on Private Land

In an unexpected move by Pierce County, a group of 22 homeowners at Golden Oaks are being slapped with a $32,000 lawsuit for failing to address the homeless encampments that have sprung up on their property. The county claims the homeowners are responsible for the wooded area where these encampments are established. Percy Williams, a resident since 2003, expressed his disbelief, stating he was unaware that the property in question was even theirs to maintain. When Golden Oaks was developed, the intention was to set up a homeowners association, but this never came to fruition. Now, instead of addressing an organized body, the county is left pointing fingers at individual homeowners. As homeowners grapple with the impending lawsuit, they face a possible increase in their property taxes should the county place a lien on each home.
