I show the resulting damage to two pumps I was asked to repair. Cavitation occurs when too much vapor gets mixed in with liquid. This causes vibration, noise and loss of performance. In propane this is always caused by a lack of supply and its resulting drop in not just pressure, but in weighted inlet pressure. A loss of inlet pressure of around 5-7# can be enough to cause vapor bubbles to form in the liquid propane as the pump and its vanes are turning.
The Behringer clamps I used are their heavy series with a single weld plate. I did apply anti-seize to the bolts and torqued the bolts on the 3.5" clamp to 60 foot pounds and the bolts on the 4.5" ones to 80 foot pounds. These clamps are sized to the outside diameter, so 3" sch40 pipe has an O.D. of 3.5" and 4" sch40 pipe has an O.D. of 4.5".
