Prang Rue Si (Prang Nok)

Prang Rue Si, called by villagers as Prang Luang Pho Chaw (the venerable monk Chaw), is a Hindu Shaivite monastery of the ancient Khmer architectural style situated outside the Ancient Town of Si Thep.

It consists of two Prasat buildings with separate layouts. Prasat number I, approximately ten meters height, is a brick building built on a laterite base in a rectangular plan. There is orly one entrance at the east, while the other three sides were blind doors.

Its architectural style was influenced by the Khmer art of the pre-Angkorian period dating to the 6th century AD.

Prasat Number 2 is a brick building built on a laterite base, 4 x 4 meters in size, and is encircled by a boundary wall, while Its roof structure collapsed. According to the architectural style, it can be dated to the 9th century AD.

According to the archaeological excavation in 2009, evidence of a Shiva Linga, a religious statue platform, a Nandi cow sculpture, and a lintel inscribed in Ancient Khmer script were discovered.

Prang Rue Si was registered as an important archaeological site in the Thai Goverment Gazette 26th March 1963.

It’s a small ruin but in a nice area and a great way to spend an hour walking around the ruins in a very peaceful setting.
