Surah Al Mulk is undoubtedly one of Allah SWT's greatest blessings upon humanity. Various Hadiths underscore the significance of this Surah, which consists of 30 verses and is the 67th Surah in the Quran. It was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the Makki period of his prophethood. Initially, it was known as Surah Al-Maani'a, meaning "the preventive," during the time of the Prophet (PBUH).

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:

“There is a Surah in the Quran which contains thirty Ayat (verses) that kept interceding for a man until his sins are forgiven. This Surah is 'Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion.' (Surah Al Mulk 67).”

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

“One of the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) pitched a tent on a grave without knowing that it was a grave. Suddenly he heard a person from the grave reciting Surah Al Mulk until he completed it. So he went to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: ‘Oh Messenger of Allah, I pitched my tent on a grave without realizing that it was a grave. Then Suddenly I heard a person from the grave reciting Surah Al Mulk till he completed it.’ The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: ‘It is the defender; it is the deliverer- it delivers from the punishment of the grave.’”

This Hadith clearly highlights the importance of Surah Al Mulk. It acknowledges that humans make numerous mistakes, knowingly and unknowingly, and that our deeds will be reflected in our graves. However, Allah SWT, the Most Merciful, has sent the Quran as a source of mercy. Surah Al Mulk, in particular, serves as a shield against the torment of the grave.

Benefits of Reading Surah Al Mulk

Forgiveness on Judgment Day: Reciting Surah Al Mulk leads to the forgiveness of sins on the Day of Judgment. Numerous Hadiths support this belief, encouraging us to recite it regularly.

Protection from the Torment of the Grave: It is Sunnah to recite Surah Al Mulk before sleeping, and doing so safeguards the reciter from the torment of the grave, as stated by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Following Sunnah: Reciting Surah Al Mulk before sleeping aligns with the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as he would not sleep without reciting it.
