An early September heat wave is burning up the U.S. once again. Millions of people are under heat emergencies as multiple cities report record high temperatures, and the scorching heat is causing an unhealthy air quality for many.

It's so hot that many schools that just reopened for the year are being forced to close. For two days in a row, students in Philadelphia have been dismissed early because of the heat, while schools in Baltimore are back to virtual learning, since many have no air conditioning.

The blistering heat comes as scientists report the world just experienced its hottest three months on record, and the U.N. has issued an urgent call to world leaders to take climate control action.

The planet has never experienced a hotter summer, and scientists say that more pollution and wildfires are expected if this trend continues. Global’s Jennifer Johnson has the latest.
