Let’s get started.

What Is Dua e Anas Bin Malik? History And Background
Hazrat Anas Bin Malik رضي الله عنه was a Sahabi (companion) of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. He lived till the time of Hajjaj Bin Yusuf, a tyrant who imprisoned and martyred numerous Sahaba and pious elders of the Ummah.

Hazrat Anas Bin Malik was a staunch critic of Hajjaj Bin Yusuf. Upon learning this, Hajjaj called Hazrat Anas Bin Malik to his palace where the following discussion took place.

Hajjaj Bin Yusuf (HBY): Are you Anas Bin Malik?

Hazrat Anas Bin Malik (ABM): Yes!

HBY: Do you curse and criticize me?

ABM: Yes, I do because doing so is an obligation on me and every Muslim. You’re a tyrant, an enemy of Islam, you’ve honored the enemies of Allah and humiliated Allah’s pious men.

HBY: Do you know why I’ve called you here?

ABM: No.

HBY: I want to give you a painful death.

ABM: If I believed you, then I would’ve worshipped you instead of Allah, and doubted Rasoolullah ﷺ, because he taught me a Dua and said, “No one would be able to harm or dominate the person, who reads this Dua.” I’ve read it this morning. So you can’t do anything to me.

HBY: I want you to teach me this Dua.

ABM: You’re not worthy of it.

HBY: Let him go.

When Hazrat Anas Bin Malik left the palace, one of Hajjaj’s guards asked, “May Allah bless our Ameer, you were looking for this man for so long, why did you let him go?”

HBY: By Allah, I saw two lions behind him. Whenever I talked to him, the lions glared at me as if they were ready to rip me apart. So, had I done anything to him, imagine what those lions would’ve done to me.”

Years passed, and when Hazrat Anas Bin Maalik was finally on his deathbed, he taught this Dua to his son, who narrated it to the later generations.

Over the years, scholars have added certain words to this dua from different hadith to make it more comprehensive. This is why you might find multiple versions of this dua. But all of them are authentic and can be read.
