Scottsdale Fire Department received a call from a concerned woman reporting a bird trapped inside a fireplace. Fortunately, at that moment, there was a knowledgeable Scottsdale fire engineer on duty who knew exactly how to handle the situation. A fire crew promptly responded to the residence, where Engineer MacCarter skillfully initiated a cautious rescue operation to free the trapped bird. The department shared a video of the incident, which shows MacCarter opening the glass doors of the fireplace and using a white tarp to gently capture the bird. One firefighter remarks, "Oh, there's the food it brought down with it."
As MacCarter attempts to safely secure the bird, it begins to flutter around the fireplace, but after a brief struggle, he successfully retrieves it. The rescued bird is revealed to be a Cooper's Hawk, characterized by its crow-sized dimensions, reddish-brown chest, blue-gray back and head cap, and feathers with white tips. Fortunately, the hawk was unharmed and was released outside the home, where it promptly took flight.

The Scottsdale Fire Department is recognized as an "All Hazards Fire Department," indicating their capability to respond to various emergencies, including aircraft incidents, hazardous materials situations, technical rescues, and, of course, fires.
