Former Proud Boys national chairman Enrique Tarrio is facing sentencing for his involvement in a plot related to the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. He will be the last leader of the Proud Boys convicted of seditious conspiracy in connection to the incident. Previously, three other Proud Boys were found guilty of this rarely used charge and received prison sentences ranging from 15 to 17 years.

The Justice Department is seeking a prison term of more than three decades for the 39-year-old Tarrio, characterizing him as the alleged ringleader of a plan involving violence aimed at undermining American democracy and overturning Joe Biden's election victory. Tarrio was not in Washington on January 6, having been arrested two days earlier in an unrelated case. However, prosecutors contend that he played a role in instigating and supporting the violence that shocked the world and disrupted the certification of Biden's electoral win by Congress.
