Melon Hammocking

When I grow melons vertically, it is not really possible without the support of the fruit because of it's weight. Where it attaches to the vine is not strong enough for any melon of size. It will eventually break off. At the very least, it will slip, as it normally does when ripe, and fall to the ground a burst open. This is why I hammock my melons to provide the necessary support toward a wonderful harvest.
