Heliconium charitonia

A white caterpillar with long black spikes, which then turns into a long-winged zebra butterfly (scientifically Heliconium charitonia). These caterpillars protect themselves from predators with bitterness and toxins they absorb from eating poisonous plants. Spikes also help protect the caterpillar from predators.
