ABC Fact Check Not Disclosing Foreign Grants?
In the course of investigating RMIT FactLab I've reviewed documents that reveal The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) has accepted substantial foreign grants through the Poynter Institute/IFCN. IFCN's funding primarily originates from grants provided by the Luminate Group/Omidyar Network, the Foundation to Promote Open Societies (Soros), the National Endowment for Democracy (US Govt), and the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
How much foreign influence is currently shaping the so-called "fact-checking" industry in Australia, and why is a government-funded entity like the ABC accepting foreign funding for local fact-checking operations?
Has the ABC ever publicly disclosed these relationships, or could there be something more concerning happening behind the scenes?
