Gran Turismo is a very good movie, but it doesn’t quite make it into the “great” category.

And the reason for this is simple. While it has excellent character development and a really unique story about a video gamer turned professional racer, it feels like a 6-part mini series that some fan editor cut down to a two hour run time. With zero puns intended, it’s a bit rushed.

What this means is that little character moments and big plot elements that should have had more emphasis are quickly breezed over, leading to an overall feeling of being slightly underwhelmed.

However, the story has such a fresh approach to the racing genre and David Harbour’s character is so good that it easily makes up for these shortcomings, even if you’ve never heard of the video game this true story is based on.
